Hungry Butterflies

speckled wood

On quiet afternoons, our amateur lepidopterist, Ceris, will lie in wait for the arrival of hungry butterflies.

They come for the floral feast of nettles, garlic mustard & cuckoo flowers that flourish undisturbed beneath the shaded leafy canopy of the churchyard.

Brimstone, peacock, comma, speckled wood, orange tip, holly blue & small white have all been spotted to have found a ready meal in the churchyard's urban refuge where they also find a brief respite from the ills of the modern world which threaten the very survival of these winged beauties.
